Know what creditors will see about you before you apply for a loan. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that each of the three credit reporting agencies – Experian, TransUnion and Equifax – provide you with a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months. All you have to do is request one by doing one of the following:
- Go to annualcreditreport.com, complete the request form and view your credit report instantly.
- Call 1-877-322-8228 to receive your free credit report by mail.
- Write to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281 to request your free credit report by mail.
You want to make sure the information on your credit report is accurate and up-to-date, especially prior to applying for a loan, insurance, job or rental. If you suspect any fraudulent use of your personal information, notify the credit reporting agencies immediately.
For more information on free credit reports go to: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov and type “free credit report” in the search box.
